McLellin provided a positive for the Bears in Game #1, recording 3 tackes and 1 sack. Defense showed us more than the STAR-less night on offense. No Cutler or Forte.
As the game started in the great Soldier Field last night, storms were pushing through Chicago. The storm didn’t affect the game, but it did make Bears coaches think twice about playing Cutler, Forte, and Julius Peppers. So we didn’t see any of those 3.
It wasn’t pretty, but that’s not what the preseason is for. There were some bright spots, but there were also some negatives. I found a website vipbox.tv to watch the game last night. Even though the stars didn’t play for the Bears last night, there was a lot to see and learn. NFL Network replayed the game at midnight. Okay, let’s get into what we learned from last night’s game.
#1 OFFENSIVE LINE STRUGGLES. So what we didn’t see Cutler or Forte on offense? The offensive line proved again that it isn’t opening up any running holes or giving the QB the proper timing to run an efficient offense. Bears are giving this young, unproven group a looong look. Jamarcus Webb was playing well into the second half. They are making him earn that tackle position. The entire starting line was still starting into the 3rd quarter. Chris Williams, the #1 backup at tackle, also didn’t impress. Sadly, it seems the Bears are stuck with who they have. This group has a chance to gain a lot of experience, but that doesn’t always equal success. Don’t expect Bears to make any moves at this point.
How bad was the Bears offense? They gained a total of 132 yards. 36 rushing and 96 passing. Bears line gave up 6 total sacks. Offense was 0-11 on 3rd downs. I guess we expected the Bears to struggle without Cutler and Forte, but you want to see the starting line and key backups at the running back
